The popularity of tablet computing is growing at a rapid pace and tablets have found their way into the business community. Recognizing this trend, Oracle has built PeopleTools 8.52 with mobile users in mind.
This is evident by the certification of the Safari web browser, which is the primary browsers on iPads and Apple based computing systems. The PeopleSoft application was designed without the use of Adobe Flash- which can be a hurdle for the iPad owners out there that want to use Flash based websites.
Apple’s decision to leave Flash out of the iPad/iPhone/iPod lineup was due to many factors including Adobe’s proprietary ownership, the availability of more modern formats such as H.264, Apple historically has been a proponent of open source programming, and most importantly they don’t view Flash as being reliable, secure, or well performing.
Oracle has highlighted a few areas of the PeopleSoft application that work better on iPads than others. One of the best areas is Work Centers, a new feature introduced in PeopleTools 8.51. The Work Centers are roll-based dashboards that include content based on a user’s role in the business. This feature should help eliminate unnecessary application navigation as the desired content will be found on the Work Center landing page.
This is a great feature of PeopleTools 8.52 for those looking to do more while on the go. The iPad’s zoom feature works beautifully and will come in handy when you want to take a closer look at any of the analytics. If you have an iPad, it will definitely be worth a look!
