Upgrade to Oracle Peoplesoft HCM reduces burden on HR & IT Staff | HSBC

Challenge

HSBC was having difficulty managing HR processes across its enterprise. Because of international variations in regulatory, compliance and HR policies, many of its global offices were using the legacy HR system differently. Further, some weren’t even using the same version of the application. As a result, maintaining the system for these various needs—and ensuring it could perform around the clock for HSBC’s global offices--was a challenge for IT staff.

The company wanted a more globally integrated, single-source system that could meet its global enterprise needs as well as the needs of its regional offices. It also wanted a new application that could offer enhanced functionalities that would enable its HR staff to become more efficient.

Solution

Emtec provided a regional project management team that helped HSBC upgrade to Oracle PeopleSoft HCM 8.9. The consulting firm developed interfaces with various third-party applications, minimized customizations from the legacy system and identified areas the new system could help improve business processes.

Emtec also enabled HSBC to utilize other additional functionality available in the new version, such as helping it roll out the Person Model and payroll processing for international transfers.

Results

All HSBC’s offices are now using a single, modern HCM system that can support their various global regulatory needs. The new functionality has helped reduce the burden on both its IT and HR staffs as well as offered better reporting capabilities.

The new system also positioned HSBC to continue its strategic plan to eventually upgrade to the Oracle Fusion (Cloud) HCM system.
